RETURNED SOLDIERS

BETTER CONDITIONS DEMANDED [P*it Umiim Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH. May 1. After a keen debate, markid by plain speaking, the annual meeting of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association endorsed the ‘motion passed iiy the Auckland Association requesting; the New Zealand Association to take immediate steps whereby the conditions affecting unemployed returned men might be ameliorated, and stating that th present conditions were nothing less than slavery at present. The Rev. F. T. Read said he hoped the motion would not be supported, as camps in New Zealand could not be compared with slavery; but other members said the association had too lone adopted a subservient attitude, and must now boldly demand better conditions for ex-soldiers.
