His action has been criticised" by a, section of the Press and by the Marine Stewards’ Union. > Mr .Bruce has 1 sent, a letter to the union explaining that his eleventh-hour visit to Brisbane-prevented him from travelling by the Aorangi; therefore, in order to be back in London early in June, he was compelled to travel by the Monterey. He added: “It is distasteful to me to travel in a foreign steamer, if a. British ship is available, but in this instance I had no alternative;”
