WATER SUPPLY
NEW MAINS LAID IMPROVEMENTS AT ROSS CREEK The Water Committee of the City Council reports that the laying of the 9in water main in Kenmure road, Elgin road, and Gardner street, and the 4in main from Riselaw road to connect to Earl’s road and . Middleton road was completed, including all connections, on March 27. The laying of this main has effected a considerable improvement in the water service on the high levels; Houses in Elgin road, Mornington road, Riselaw road, and Middleton road which previously were without’ water during portion of practically every day, now have a constant supply throughout the twenty-four hours. The labourers, selected from the relief work gangs, who were employed on this job, are reported to have rendered very satisfactory service throughout the course of the work.
Dealing with Ross Creek Reservoir, the committee states that the important work of making good .defects in the upper part of the clay puddle wall of the reservoir embankment has been carried on for a total length of 148 ft. The cost to the end of March, estimated as the present rate of expenditure, will be approximately £IBO. It will be necessary to continue this work throughout the whole length of the embankment, and also to put a watertight cut-off wall under the by-pass channel. The estimated cost of this additional work is £240, to be paid for out of the allocations for the new financial year, and authority has been given for the work to proceed. .
