RECOVERY
AUSTRALIA AHEAD OF UNITED STATES Sir John Vicars, who returned to Sydney recently by 'the Mariposa, said that, while there were definite sighs of improvement in the United States, she had a long way to go before she would reach Australia’s stage of recovery. Comparing the visit he has just made with that of twelve months before, Sir, John Vicars said that there was a different feeling ■in evidence. The people of the United States were showing great confidence in President Roosevelt, who would, he thought, win through, provided he pursued his policy without wavering. The position in the United States, however, was npt likely to be as sound as that of Australia for a long time., _ One of the most pleasing effects of the improvement was that the United States could be looked to for the purchase of greater quantities of Australian wool this year. There was no great accumulation of wool stocks in America, and thus the effect of renewed business activity should be felt immediately.
