OAMARU NORTH SCHOOL BALL

The jubilee celebrations of the Oamaru North. School were held during the Easter holidays, and attracted expupils from all parts of the dominion. A series of functions were held, which created considerable interest, the mostnoteworthy being the grand ball, held in the Drill Hall on the Monday night. The hall had been artistically decorated in streamers and greenery, and with quaint lighting effects made a very fine scene. A feature of the decorations was the brilliant flood lighting effects produced by the many coloured lights. A large North School crest occupied a prominent place. The floor was in excellent order, and the attendance, which numbered in the vicinity of 180 couples, spent a very pleasant time in dancing to music supplied by Rae’s Gaiety Orchestra. The grand march, which was led off by Mr IV. Gillies (chairman of the Jubilee Committee) and Mrs Nyhon (the oldest teacher present), made an imposing spectacle, and was watched with interest by a large section of the public from the balcony.
