MDDERHISING DOMINION SYSTEM [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, February 27. “ Gradually, by the introduction of more facilities for practical training, the system of education in New Zealand is being changed. In the past paramount importance has been placed upon the academic side of school training.” The Minister of Education, the Hon. 11. Masters, speaking at the official opening of the Shirley Intermediate School, indicated that his department had already broken away from that tradition, and, without underestimating the value and necessity for academic training, was planning to establish a more practical form of education than New Zealand had previously known. Agriculture, for instance, would be taught in agricultural districts, and mining in mining districts.
