ST. HILDA WINS QUICKSTEP FIRST IN MUSIC AND MARCHING [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, February 24. Magnificent marching and fine playing won for the St. Kilda Municipal Baud the A grade military display and quickstep at Athletic \Park on Saturday. Twenty-two bands, eleven in the A grade and eleven in the B grade, competed during the afternoon, and treated the crowd of between 10,000 and 12,000 to a splendid exhibition of precise manoeuvring, the work of some of the A grade, bands being very spectacular. St. Kilda gained highest points both for music and marching, being 4J points ahead of the next band, Invercargill Civic, which won the contest last year. Invercargill’s marching was quite as 1 good as, if not better, than St. Kilda’s, but this band lost valuable marks through setting too fast a pace. The B grade contest was won by Wellington Boys’ .. Institute, which gained a clear-cut win over - Southland Battalion and Westport Municipal, Results:— A GRADE.
