REGISTERED NURSES

CONFERENCE CONTINUES Yesterday afternoon’s proceedings in connection with the annual conference of delegates of the New Zealand Registered Nurses’ Association were commenced by a visit to the Public Hospital and Nurses’ Home, the delegates being the guests of the Otago Hospital Board. They were received by the medical superintendent (Dr Thompson) and matron (Miss Tennant), and v cie conducted round the. various departments of the institutions, visits being made to the X-ray and radium departments, where Dr C. De Monchaux- explained the methods of treatment by radium and the precautions taken in the handling and housing of the element.' The kitchens and the wards were then visited, alter which, under the direction of Mr Renfrew White, a very interesting demonstration of postural exercises was given by the student nU Later in the afternoon the guests were entertained at_ tea in the Nuises Home, where Mrs W alter Ross and Miss Runciman, members of the Hospital Board, extended a welcome. At the conclusion of this function the visitors were given the opportunity of inspecting a very fine exhibition of nursing equipment. Exhibits of the latest and most up-to-date equipment had been sent from hospitals all over New Zealand, included in the display being show stands bearing exhibits by various importing firms or the latest medical and surgical appliances. It is the first time an exhibition of this type has been held, and the Dunedin Hospital authorities, particularly the lady superintendent, are to be congratulated on the innovation. At the conclusion of the visit Miss Young, on behalf of the delegates, thanked the Hospital Board the superintendent, and the matron for a very instructive and enjoyable' afternoon.
