LURLINE ARRIVES WITH 407 PASSENGERS FARES RANGE UP TO £2.500 H’EU United I’kess Association.] AUCKLAND, February 9. A sister ship of the Mariposa and the Monterey, the Matson liner Lurline arrived from Suva to-day with 407 passengers, the largest number ever to embark on such a holiday in tin’s part of the world. The ship is on the first stage of a 24,000-mile cruise, which began at San Francisco on January 23, She sails at mid-day on Sunday. Tourist officers boarded the Imcr in the stream, and arranged parties for trips to Rotorua and Waitomo. Others went to Rotorua in the Southern Cross, piloted by Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, and the remainder began sightseeing around Auckland in motor cars. Women outnumber men by three to cue amongst tho passengers. Nearly all, are Americans, many enjoying a holiday they have looked forward to for years. The prices for the full cruise range from IjOOOdol to 12,500d01. Among notable passengers are the Duchess of Northumberland and her two daughters, and Alajor-gcueral A. J. Bowley, commandant of the United States army at Hawaii. The Lurline, which pays £417 in port dues, £252 in light dues, and £62 fox water, will take a largo quantity oi fresh foods aboard before sailing for Sydney and the Orient.
