BOYS’ CRICKET

OTAGO ASSOCIATION The annual meeting of the Otago Boys’ Cricket Association was held last night in the Y.M.C.A. buildings. Mr Crosby Morris presided over a good attendance. In moving the report and balancesheet, the chairman said the season had been a very satisfactory one, and the entries had been the highest since the association was formed. This was also very satisfactory, and showed that the work of the association among the boys was appreciated. He congratulated tho Christian Brothers’ team on again winning tho A grade competition. This was the third year the team hah been successful in the competition. The team had a very fine record, scoring 2V points. Technical College had also dono well, being second in the competition. The junior competition was won by the Otago Boys’ High School team, The play all round had been very good, and very few of the matches had been runaway victories. It was unfortunate that the Otago team made a poor start in the representative game , against Canterbury, but play on both sides had been very good. Tho weakness of ihe Otago team had been the bowling. It was pleasing to see the Otago boys put up a good fight in both games. There was every indication that tho Otago boys’ play was improving, and it was hoped that both Otago teams would beat Canterbury when the teams again met! He had been informed that too many hoys were inclined to indulge in fast bowling instead of endeavouring to get a good length. It was hoped the coaches would pay attention to this and rectify the practice. The association closed the year satisfactorily with a credit balance. They all regretted the death of Mr D. E. Theomin, who was the first president of the association, and who had taken a keen interest in the boys. The association had suffered a great loss through the passing of Mr ■Theomin.
