SLIPPERY WINS THE STAKES The second day of the Poverty Bay Turf Club’s Summer Meeting was held in wet weather, rain falling practically continuously from early morning and throughout the day. The course was in good order for the opening events, hut as the day wore on the going became heavy. The totalisator investments were £2,393. against £3,112 for the corresponding day last year a decrease of £719. After six furlongs had been covered Slippery overhauled Little Wonder, who was then passed by Sylvan Dell. Nearing the straight entrance the field dosed up. but Slippery was never troubled, and won easily by four lengths from Kinsel, who put in a good run in the concluding stages. Sylvan Dell was a length back, closely followed by Sunny Sky. Time, 2min 14seo.
