TOUR OF FARMERS

PARTY FROM NEW SOUTH WALES DUE AT DUNEDIN DN MONDAY Comprised of sixty-six members, the party of New South Wales farmers at present touring New Zealand passed through Dunedin yesterday afternoon by the express from Christchurch ou their way to Invercargill. They spent | to-day in the south, and to-morrow will leave for Queenstown, staying there over Sunday, and then arriving at Dunedin on Monday. The party goes north again on Tuesday. The farmers represent all the important primary industries of their State. The tour was arranged by the Tourist Department, and is in charge of Mr R. W. Marshall, of the Wellington office. The leader of the party is Mr Arthur Grimm, of Grenfell. Speaking during a reception at Christchurch, Mr Grimm said ; “ We come among you as farmers—simple men. if you like, but not too simple,” said Mr Grimm. “We v want to mix among, you as farmers, :and we -hope to,-lea no things that will? be .of advantage to us;. V e believe you are in the van in dairying, fat lamb raising, and pasture management, and we want to find out how you do it. We will take all the information we can get.” While waiting on the Dunedin station yesterday several members said they were delighted with what they had seen so far, and one stated he had never known that there was scenery of such beauty anywhere in the world. I The itinerary after the party’s arrival at Dunedin is as follows; February 13.—Dunedin to Lyttelton to connect with steamer in evening for Wellington. February 14.—Arrive Wellington.Morning: Travel by train to Palmerston North. Afternoon : Visit Massey Agricultural College, Dairy Research Institute, Plant Research Station, and seed testing areas. Evening: Depart by train for National Park, thence to Chateau Tongariro. February IS.—At Chateau Tongariro. Sight-seeing trips to various points of interest arranged. February 16.—Chateau to Rotorua, motors travelling via Lake Taupo. Stops will be made at Wairakei en route to enable party to visit Geyser Valley and Karapiti Blow Hole. February 17.—At Rotorua. Sightseeing trip during day. Evenings Maori concert. February 18.—Rotorua to Hamilton by motor, stops being made at Arap'uni hydro-electric works en route. Afternoon: Visit New Zealand Cooperative Dairy Company’s factory at Frankton Junction and Ruakura State Farm. February 19.—Morning at Auckland. Afternoon: Depart by Aorangi for Sydney.
