LAVISH EXPENDITURE ON CELEBRATIONS FARMERS’ UNION PROTEST [Pbk United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, February 8. The Auckland Farmers’ Union Executive unanimously passed a resolution “ That while this executive appreciates the action of the Governor-Gen-eral in presenting the site of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi to the nation, it protests against the unnecessarily lavish expenditure upon the Waitangi celebrations at a time when the Government is complaining of a shortage of funds for many necessary purposes.” , .... Mr J W. Jones, who lives near Waitangi, said that for years the residents had been without road access and had endeavoured vainlv to have some sort of inexpensive bridge erected. Now an elaborate bridge had been built at the mouth of a tidal river in suck a position as to be of no use to the settlers and to block the river for navigation.
