AUSTRALIAN LOANS

QUESTION OF CONVERSION THE GOVERNMENT'S INTENTIONS Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright, SYDNEY, February 5. The ‘ Sun’s ’ Canberra correspondent says: “There is no likelihood of Australia making any attempt this year to convert the loans that are redeemable from 1935 to 1945 as suggested by the London ‘ Financial News.’ It is pointed out that any operation of this character would be m the nature of a gamble, and would mean the paying of interest on the old loan to 1935, in addition to paying interest between the date of conversion and the earliest date of maturity of the 1935-45 loan. However, an early announcement of the issue of a loan to convert £16,856,000 of optional stock still remaining on high interest rate is expected from London. When this is completed Mr Bruce will return to Australia via America.”
