Archbishop Duhig, in a statement, said that the Western Australian and Commonwealth Governments had apparently not yet expressed regret in the proper quarter for the disgraceful happenings at Kalgoorlie. (Received February 6, at 10 a.m.) The Prime Minister said: “ All rightthinking Australians will view with contempt the action of the Kalgoorlie miners who caused the recent riots. The Commonwealth Government, with the Government of Western Australia, condemns and deplores what Mr Collier (the Premier) rightly described as a scandalous happening in a civilised community.”

Mr Lyons expressed confidence in the State Government’s ability to prevent further trouble.
