LONDON SALES CLOSE STEADY GOOD HOME AND CONTINENTAL COMPETITION Press Association— By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, February 2. (Received February 3, at 10.5 a.m.) At the wool sales 5,305 bales were offered, including 2,593 from New .Zealand, and 4,052 bales were sold.. There was fairly good Home and Continental competition, with a steady tone. New Zealand greasy cross-bred, “ Paroa, top 18id, average 9|d; half-bred lamb slipe, “ Eclipse,” 19d and 18|d. The total number of bales catalogued was 123,842, of which 53.200 bales were sold to Homo buyers, 55,800 to the Continent, and 15,000 held over. The. total of Australian tvool sold was 61,000 bales, and of New Zealand 42,000. The sales closed steady at recent levels. Quotations were dearer compared with December closing rates. Merinos, greasy super, were 10 per cent, up, other fleece wools ij, pieces 15, and scoureds 10 to 16. Cross-breds, fine, were 15 per cent, up, medium 7s, coarse 5, and slipes 15 to 20. The National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand Ltd. has ceived the following cablegram from London, under date the 2nd inst.; “ The auctions closed here to-day at a decline on opening rates, but the demand is good at the lower prices. Compared with opening rates the quotes were: Greasy merino, best id lower; average id lower; greasy half-breds, 50-56 id lower; cross-breds, 48-50,. 4b--48, 44-46, 40-44, 36-40, Id to lid lower. Slipe wools generally and good medium grade hoggets good demand at about opening rates.”
