EXCHANGE EQUALISATION

THE BRITISH FUND STATEMENT BY CHANCELLOR Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. RUGBY, January 30. Referring in the House of Commons to the Exchange Equalisation Fund, the Chancelor of the Exchequer (Mr Neville Chamberlain), again emphasised that its purpose was to correct the temporary fluctuations in the exchange value of sterling. It had not been used to create an artificial value for sterling for the purpose of returning to the gold standard or for any other purpose, and as there was a good deal of misunderstanding he added that it would be, in his opinion, inetliciive if so used. Replying to a question, he said that £250,000,000 was still in the fund.
