GERMANY AND AUSTRIA

SUGGESTION FOB FRIENDLY CO-OPERATION

Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.

VIENNA, January 29. Prince Starhemberg, addressing the Heimwehr commanders, outlined the conditions on which the conflict between Austria and Germany could be ended. He said that Herr Hitler must give a written declaration recognising Austria’s sovereign independence. Secondly', it must be recognised that Fascism in Austria is represented by the Heimwehr, consequently the Nazi Party ■in Austria is superfluous. Thirdly, Herr Hitler must give a written guarantee never to attempt to place non-Austrian Germans in leadership. “If Herr Hitler agrees I am prepared to state the form in which Austria could support the German foreign policy.” The Prince-added; “We will back Dr Dollfuss in the Fascist reconstruction of Austria.”
