VISITORS FROM AUSTRALIA
TO CONFER WITH GOVERNMENT
" INTERCHANGE OF PRODUCTS
THE EMBARGO QUESTION [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, January 30. ' Representing the Federal and New South Wales Governments, the Hon. F. H. Stewart, Minister of Customs, and the Hon. R. W. S. Weaver, Minister of Pdblic Works and Health, arrived today on route to the Waitangi ceremony. Later both will spend some time in tho dominion conferring with the Government.
Mr Stewart said bo intended to discuss the embargoes on the interchange of products between the two countries and the question of collaboration in the export of primary produce to Groat Britain. There was room for regulating and spreading shipments of fruit, butter, and meat.
In reply to. a question, lie said the report that Australia would relax the embargo on New Zealand apples and pears was rather premature. The embargo would probably be modified. The main object of his visit was to promote a better understanding and goodwill. Mr Weaver is accompanied by Mr J. Merrett, Commissioner of the Meat Industry in Sydney. They intend to study the chain system of killing which was introduced in the dominion last year. The Minister is also interested in the hygienic distribution of milk, and hopes to investigate particularly Wellington’s municipal system.
