M'Grath started brilliantly against Perry, who was netting ground shots. M'Grath cleverly slowed the game and won tlie first two sets after a great baseline btttle. Perry forced the pace in the last three, and gained a better length with his drives. He eame to the net successfully. The Englishman also served brilliantly in a crisis. Whenever Perry attacked he proved superior. M'Grath was exhausted at the finish. Crawford was definitely superior to Quist in all departments, with the possible exception of overhead wonv. Quist attempted to stage a net attack, but Crawford’s drives found openigs. The doubles final was evenly contested throughout. The Australians at first were brilliant, scarcely ever miss-

ing a smash or volley, bui Perry’s fierce services and smashing drives, together with Hughes’s accurate return of service and clever net interceptions, proved too good'for the Australians. Miss Bickerton was unable I to cop* with Miss Hartigan’s stinging drive* to the comers, while Mrs Molesworth’* . all-round play carried her .through ' against'the New South country champion. Mesdames Westacott and Molesworth paired excellently to down Misses Har» tigan. and Valkenburg in the women’* doublso final. -
