Paget, with whom they are staying, ! at his home, Ibstock place, Roehampton, S.W. They claim to be able to locate, with a rod-of their invention, gold, silver, oil, coal, water, salt, and potash at whatever depths the properties may exist. The diviners are Mr Charles Zumstein, a peasant farmer, who is 67,, and his twenty,-eight-year-old nephew, Mr Charles Schirck, and they have offered to undergo any tests that scientists may put before them. , ' ■ , .
They gave a demonstration of their powers to a ‘ Daily Mail ’ reporter. Both the diviners use a wire “twig’* with brass, handles, and they fit to one .of the grips a number of small brass . tubes , which they employ separately according to the properties for which they are searching. What these tubes , contain they decline to diyulge. . - In the - first test, using their rods alone, they found a running stream, which Major Paget says exists below his garden. By a number of taps with their feet on the ground they were also able to estimate the depth of the surface. ■ > , - ~ - For the next, test a gold ring was hidden in the garden. For .some time the men, using their tubes, walked steadily about, and then, when they approached the spot where- the ring was buried their rodsbegan to tremble, and within a few seconds were twitching violently over the exact By using different tubes they also found silver and lumps of coal that were secreted in the grountis, and they carried out Successfully other tests, which were made m the drawing room. ■ , ■ , To show that it was possible for the rods to be used by other people, they were given to.
