NEW DAFFODILS

The usual crop of novelty narcissi is noticed in the special trade number of the ‘ English Nurseryman and Seedman,’ and in due course some of them will find their way out'here. It is interesting, however, to notice that at the great London daffodil show, held last April, only one variety attained the honour of a first class certificate. This was a double poeticus called White Rose, raised by that prince of raisers, Rev. G. H. Englehart, and described as a lovely double fragrant white flower of purest white. Evidently double varieties are in favour, for another, Englehardt’s Carnation, ivory white, was given an award of merit. A red cup in Porthilly is described as the finest Incamp, of the season, the raiser being Mr P. D. ■Williams. The Brodie of Brodie received an A.M., also for a Barri' named Varna, a cross between Beacon and Fortune, while our late visitor and daffodil expert, Mr Guy Wilson, got an A.M. for a trumpet variety named Clonmel. By the description it must be a giant ajax of unusual merit.
