HOTEL BAR RAID

ALLEGED BREACHES DF GAMING ACT i THREE ARRESTS MADE In a raid by the police at the public bar of the Carlton Hotel at midday today three men —Alexander Gourlay (barman), James Kennedy, and James Ernest Gillan (assistant barmen) —were arrested m connection with alleged breaches of the Gaming Act. The raid was carefully planned, and carried out by Detective-sergeants Doyle and Nutlall, Detectives Taylor, Gibson, Marsh, and Wills, and Constable Brown, and the three barmen were taken in charge without any trouble. The. arrests were made so suddenly and quietly that those present -in the bar had little time to realise what m happening. Later the three men were brought before Mr E. W. G. H. Watts, J.P., and remanded on bail .to appear at the Police Court on Monday.
