[Per United Press Association. I WESTPORT,'January 24. The West Coast championships were commenced to-day under beautiful conditions. The presence of competitors From Canterbury district, including H. Dymond , (last year’s champion), Motueka, Greymouth, and Duller district added interest to the tournament. • In all sixty games were decided and some brilliant lawn tennis was witnessed at times by the large crowd. The titleholders, Dymond and Miss N. Costello, of Greymouth, won their games convincingly, but P. Warnes, of Greymouth, extended the former. . Patterson and Keai, of Greymouth, and Porde, of Christchurch, played well, and should be semi-finalists, while Miss Costello seems assured of retaining her title*
