«■ GOMMITTEES APPOINTED The General Committee of the Manufacturers' Association met yesterday afternoon in Messrs. W. E. C. Reid and Co.'s board room, the president (Mr James Hogg) being in the chair. The Chairman extended a welcome to all members, and expressed the hope that they would have a prosperous year in their industries. Wool had gone up, and he hoped that the year would result in a rise in prices for products from their secondary industries as well. The following special committees were appointed for the year:— Tariff Committee.—Messrs J. G. Jefferv (convener), J. Sutherland Ross, rI."L. Longßottom. C. V. Smith, H. \j. Dolamore, W: Garrett, and \Y. Stevenson. Membership Committee. —Messrs \\. G. Kindlev (convener), J. H. Stewart, James Stark, It. Ellis, C. A. Wilson, It. Duncan, and A. Smelhe. Publicity Committee. —Messrs J. Evans (convener"), F. W. Cleavin, J. B. Shacklock, H. H. Harris, E. Sheed, T. Somerville, and A. Pratt. It was decided that the executive committee consist of the president (Mr James Hogg), the two vice-presidents (Messrs J. Sutherland Ross and J. H. Stewart), and conveners of the three committees (Messrs J. G. Jeffery, W. G. Kindlev, and J. Evans). WELLINGTON EASTER SHOW. The Secretary of the ,Wellington Manufacturers' Association wrote with regard to the Wellington Easter Show and Industrial Exhibition. He stated that negotiations were in hand to have a British and Australian court of manufactured goods at the forthcoming Wellington: Easter Show and Industrial Exhibition, to be held from March 24 to April 7. The Wellington Manufacturers' Association, realising the influence such efforts must have in regard to tariff questions, strongly urged upon all New Zealand manufacturers the necessity of being represented in the New Zealand section of the Wellington Easter Show. It was left to Mr Sheed to approach the association's main list of exhibitors to obtain their vie#s on the matter, after which the executive committee could decide whether it should make a joint Otago exhibit. FRUIT EXPORT GUARANTEE. The Chairman reported that Mr C. P. Hainsworth, representing the fruitgrowers of Central Otago, had asked the association to convene a meeting in regard to the apple export trade, and the meeting had decided to support the fruitgrowers' request regarding the applicability of the fruit export guarantee to Otago growers. Mr Hogg "said that he had seen Mr Hainsworth on Tuesday, and the latter had told him that the fruitgrowers in Central Otago were extremely grateful for the assistance of the Manufacturers' Association and other bodies present. , PRIME MINISTER'S VISIT. Reporting with regard to the visit of the Prime Minister (Right Hon. G. W. Forbes), the chairman detailed the arrangements that had been made for inspections of various factories by Mr Forbes, and stated that the association would entertain the Prime Minister at luncheon on Friday. It was anticipated that there would,be about 100 present at this function.; DOMINION MANUFACTURERS' CONFERENCE. The Chairman reported on. the activities of the Dominion Manufacturers' Conference, which was 'held at Wellington in November last, stating that the opportunity had been taken to wait on the caucuses of the Labour and Coalition Parties. The conference had been an excellent one, a splendid show of the strength of the manufacturers of New' Zealand, and of their unity. Mr Stewart supported the chairman's remarks, and the speakers were thanked for their reports. WINDOW DISPLAY WEEK. The Chairman suggested that a meeting should be held early next month for the purpose of making recommendations for a window display week and to fix the date.—The suggestion was approved.
