HEAVY DROP IN ART UNION PROFITS f (Special to the 1 Star,'] INVERCARGILL, January 24. The profits from art unions are fall- ’ in it at a very rapid pace. A year or two ago the big art unions were bringing in a net return of about £14.000, biit now the returns have sunk to about £5 000. This information was given by the Prime Minister (Mr Forbes) to-day, when lie was asked by an athletic organisation for a grant from an art union . Mr Forbes said that relief ot distress was usually given first call on the proceeds. and after that grants were made to organisations of a charitable and social nature. Assistance was also given to organisations which had their bank advances guaranteed by members, some of whom were not nov. - in a position to meet the call on guarantors.
