PRISON REFORM DRAMA

‘ MAYOR OF HELL ' FOR STRAND The excellent programme which will be shown for the first time at the Strand Theatre on Friday, will be headed by ‘ The Mayor of Hell,’ a powerful drama of modern life. James Cagney, who will be remembered for his outstanding performance in ‘ Hard to Handle,’ gives another fine portrayal as a young, man who endeavours to introduce humanitarian methods - into a prison reform school. He attempts to set up a self-governing organisation- among the boys of the school, but his plans are thwarted by the domineering superintendent, a role to which Dudley Diggcs is admirably suited. Others in the cast are Madge Evans, who is delightful ns a nurse attached to the school, Allen Jenkins, and Arthur Byron.
