MAGNIFICENT DISPLAY
NATIONAL FLOWER SHOW PRAISED BY ICED BLEBISLOE [Pick United Press Association.] PALMERSTON N., January .23. The National Flower Show, in conjunction with which tho annual conference ol the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture is being held, was opened this morning, when many outstanding achievements in horticulture were seen. Flower gems ol many lands, hybridised or developed in new forms, contribute to an exhibition of unsurpassed excellence. The official inauguration was held this afternoon by the Gov-ernor-General (Lord Bledisloo). Lord Uledisloe in his, speech, described the show as a truly magnificent display, and lie congratulated the organisers warmly. The Governor-Gen-eral also added that lie was perfectly satisfied that the choice of Palmerston .North as the location for the show was fully justified.
in conjunction with the show is being held an exhibition by the Women’s Institute, which is as wonderful as the flower display. Lord Bledisloo .paid a tribute to this exhibition, adding that the Women’s institute Was a great movement, possibly the greatest movement amongst women that the world had seen. So far as this country was concerned, it had taken root in very favourable soil. The Women of this country would not be matched or outmatched by any other country in the world.—(Applause.) ‘‘So much dcjiends on the women's energy, courage. patience, and resourcefulness in the dominion that 1 for my part welcome most enthusiastically this further evidence of achievement of our enterprising women,” concluded his Excellency.
