' ' BATHING TO CEASE ‘T&BRADFORD, January 3. A “ Holy Well ” has been discovered on llkley Moor, and so many people go to bathe in it that the Baildon Urban* District, Council. has, appealed to the Bradford Corporation, which holds the manorial rights for the Baildon Moor section of Ilkley Moors, for permission to prevent public access to thd well- . . It is known locally as “ Joe’s Went,n Nobody knows who Joe was or why the well was named after him, but there is a belief that the water cures rheumatism and skin diseases. No “ cures J have been reported. . • The well is the water supply for, washing purposes, in the Bow Hill district# and it is as a result of complaints of people living there that action has been taken. Bradford Corporation Parks Committee has decided to-grant Baildon Council permission to do what it can to keep the water clean, either by fencing in the well or covering it. ’
