Cream butter and sugar, add golden’ syrup, add eggs (one by one), then flour with cinnamon and ground ginger in, and milk, and lastly dissolve soda in little boiling water and add just before baking. Bake one hour in meat tin in a moderate oven. Leave in tin till quite cold.
