Mr L. G. Hill left for Wellington this morning to attend the Wellington Cup Meeting and the yearling sales. Bros. Carey and Fanning. (of the Christian Brothers’ High School staff), and M'Crossan (of the* St. Kevin’s College staff, Oamaru) left by this morning’s train for Sydney to join the staffs of Christian Brothers’ schools there. Bro. Lynch, of Sydney, who has been visiting Dunedin, also went north on his way home. Major Douglas is expected to arrive in Dunedin on Wednesday, February 14, when he will he accorded a civio reception. He will address a publio meeting on the following evening, and leave for the north on the morning of February 16. Mr T. W. Dobbie left this morning by the second express for Wellington. The Vincentian Fathers will arrive at Mosgiel to take charge of Holy, Cross College, the New Zealand provincial seminary, about the middle of February. They are (states the ‘ TabJet ’) Dr N. Rossiter (rector), who has for some time been acting provincial of the order-and in charge of the students at Eastwood College, near Sydney, the Very Rev., Father E. Haggitt, who will leave Christchurch shortly for Nelson. Mrs Jessie Aitken, who for. four years was the Labour representative on the Wellington Hospital Board, died B' 'day. She was elected to the in 1917, and served until 1921. She is survived by seven daughters and four sons. The death of Mr Robert John Fleming (79), a_ member of a Canterbury pioneer family, and son of an original, settler at Port Levy, is announced from Christchurch. . . He was ' a wellknown breeder of stud sheep; A Wellington message announces the death of Mr Charles Batten, aged sixty-eight years. He entered the service of the Railway Department as a cadet, and served in the accountancy, branch at Christchurch, Wanganui, .Napier, and Wellington. . He retired eight years ago. He was one time president of the Railway Officers’ Institute.; Mr R. A. Usmar. representative of British Dominions Films, who brought ‘ Tell Me To-night ’. to Dunedin, is at present in the city in connection with the screening at the St. James theatre of three further‘notable productions—- ‘ Hindle Wakes,’ ‘ Rome Express,* and ‘ Thark.’ .
