The following weather forecast wa* issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern district—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— The general inference is that a tropical cyclone is still located far to the north of New Zealand, gud the present dry, warm weather is due to its influence. A westerly depression is passing in the south, hut is causing little rain. Forecast: Moderate to strong westerly winds, reaching gale, force at times in Foyeaux Strait. Weather mainly fair, warm, and sultry, but showers are likely at times south from Dunedin. Seas rough on south coast, ’ elsewhere moderate. ARRlVED—January 18. Hauraki, m.s. (8 p.m.), 749 tons, Williams, for Wanganui via ports. COASTWISE MOVEMENTS.
Storm' arrived from the north yesterday morning and sailed in the evening for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. Gale is to load at Dunedin on January 24 for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. John arrived this afternoon from Wellington. She is to sail to-night for Wanganui, New Plymouth, and Port Waikato via ports. Calm is due to-morrow to load for Wanganui via ports. Totara sailed for' yesterday to complete loading for New Plymouth via Lyttelton and Wellington. Port Whangarei is due from Lyttelton on Thursday next, and is to sail the same day for her usual ports. Abel Tasman is expected at Dunedin about the end of next week from New South Wales ports via Auckland. Waimarino was scheduled _ to leave Bluff this afternoon. She is due tomorrow morning, and is to sale the same day for Lyttelton, Wellington, Oamaru, Timaru, and Auckland. She is to transport Wirth’s Circus to Wellington from Lyttelton,
Poolta was to leave Wellington to-day for Dunedin direct. She is due on Sunday, and is to sail on Tuesday for Napier and Gisborne via ports. Wingatui was to leave Auckland today for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. She is due about January 25. Kini ivas to load at Westport to-day for Wellington, Jjyttelton, Oamaru, and Dunedin. She is due on January 29, and is to load for Nelson and New Plymouth via ports. KARETU FROM PENANG. The Union Company’s Karetu arrived from Penang via northern ports this morning to discharge general cargo from Eastern ports. * She was to sail for Bluff at 4 this afternoon to complete her discharge. HAURAKI ARRIVES. The motor vessel Hauraki reached Dunedin last evening from San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Nukualofa via Auckland, Wellington, and Jjyttelton. Ijos Angeles was left with a full cargo on December 16, and the vessel reached Auckland on January 7. Though a new wharf is being built at Nukualofa the vessel was too large to permit of her being taken alongside, and the fruit was loaded from her own boats. The Hauraki is to sail at 6 p.m. to-day for Hobart, Beauty Point, Melbourne. Sydney, Fiji, Samoa, and the Pacific Coast. INTERISLAND SERVICE. The interisland express steamer Wahine reached Lyttelton at 6.55 a.in. from Wellington. Passengers and mail for the south connected ■wtih the express.
ORAM FOR OPUA. The Orari, which left Liverpool on December 9 in ballast, has reported that she expects to arrive at Opua at 7 a.m. on Monday to commence loading. The vessel will later load at Wanganui, New Plymouth, and Wellington, being at the latter port on January 31, and is scheduled to go on to Lyttelton on February 3. She is to sail five days later for London, Avonmouth, Liverpool, and Glasgow. HUNTINGDON DELAYED. The Federal steamer Huntingdon was delayed at Auckland by rain, and arrived at Wellington yesterday morning to continue discharge of her cargo from Glasgow and Liverpool. She will later
complete discharge nt Lyttelton and Dunedin. TEKOA FROM LIVERPOOL. The Tekoa is reported to have left Liverpool on Monday for New Zealand. She is due at Auckland on March 1. MATAI'S MOVEMENTS. The Government steamer Matai is expected to return to Wellington from a tour of inspection of northern lighthouses about February 20. PORT HUNTER RADIOS. A radio message has been received by the C. and D. Line advising. that the .Port Hunter, from London, is expected to arrive at Auckland at 4 p.m. on Sunday. She will later complete discharge at Wellington and Bluff. MAUNGANUI FROM 'FRISCO. The Union Company's R.M.S. Maunganui, ' from Sydney and Wellington, reached San Francisco last Saturday morning. She sailed on Wednesday for Papeete, Rarotonga, Wellington, and Sydney, and is due at Wellington on February 5. THE CITY OF LYONS. The City of Lyons, from New York, arrived at Auckland on Wednesday, and will complete discharge at Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. NORFOLK CLEARS CARACAS BAY. The Norfolk, which left Napier on December 19 for London and West Coast ports of the United Kingdom, cleared Caracas Bay on January 12 in continuation of her voyage. PORT SYDNEY AT BLUFF. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Sydney arrived at Bluff early on Monday morning from Port Kembla to begin her New Zealand loading for London. She will complete ■her loadiiTg'at Lyttelton, Gisbori)F,an«l : Auckland, sailing' from tlie latter port for London on January 31 via Cape Horn. The Port Sydnev left Liverpool on October 26 for Philadelphia, Havana, and New York; and sailed from the latter via Panama for Australia and New Zealand with 7,000 tons of American cargo for discharge at Australian ports. A good passage to the Commonwealth was made, Brisbane being the first port of call there. Afterwards calls were made at Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne v and Adelaide, the vessel then returning to New South Wales and bunkering at Port Kembla before sailing for New Zealand. Rough weather was encountered on the run across the Tasman, with southerlies prevailing. Before being acquired by the Commonwealth and Dominion Company the Port Sydney belonged to the Star Line of steamers, her name then being the Star of England. At Bluff 22,000 freight carcases of frozen meat; 8,400 crates of cheese, and 1,000 boxes of butter were loaded. The vessel was to sail on Wednesday for Lyttelton Gisborne, and Auckland. From the latter port the vessel is scheduled to sail for London on January 31.

Mr E, Jones; wireless operator, Mr A. Shippam; chief steward, Mr T. B. Stevens.
MARAMA’S CRUISE. In connection with the forthcoming cruise of the Marama to D’Urville Island, Queen Charlotte and Pelorus Sounds the vessel will leave Wellington wharf at 7.30 p.m. on Monday, January 29, to anchor in the stream until 11 p.m. She will then proceed to Port Hardy, Ship Cove, Ngakuta Bay, Kenepuru Sound, and Tennyson Inlet, arIriving back at Wellington about 9 a.m. on Friday, February 2. The Marama will again leave Wellington on Alonday, March 26, returning to Wellington on Friday, March 30, following a similar itinerary.
NEW ADRIATIC PORT. The completion of the new port of Durazzo is an event of importance for the Adriatic. Formerly there was only a straight beach, and the water area of the harbour is enclosed by two moles, one of 1,300 metres, which protects from south and east winds, and another of 1,400 metres, which affords protection from the west. The entrance to the harbour is 230 metres wide. The quays are about 980 metres in extent, and the cost of the whole about £400,000. The work was begun in 1928, and the engineers are Italians. LONDON’S SHIPPING.
During the week ended December 1 1,269 vessels, representing 1,081,296 net register tons, used the Port of London. Five hundred and twenty-seven vessels (851,251 net register tons) were to and from Empire and foreign ports, and 742 vessels (230,045 net register tons) were engaged in coastwise traffic. WIRRAL FROM NEW YORK. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Wirral left New York on January 9, Philadelphia the following day, and Newport News on January 13 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin via Tampico,
KALINGO DELAYED. The Kalingo, loading in Australia for New Zealand ports, has been bar-bound j. at Grafton. New South Wales, and was to leave there on Tuesday for Newcastle. She should now get away from Newcastle to-day for Auckland. CITY LINE ALTERATION. The following telegram has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company with regard to an alteration in the itinerary of vessels of the City Line:—" Commencing with the City of Canberra, sailing .from New York on February 22, all New Zealand despatches load at Gulf of Mexico ports before New York, this making the latter the final port.
