ARTILLERY TRAINING

FIVE BATTERIES TO CAMP AT SUTTON Between now and February 24 five batteries of the New Zealand Artillery will carry out their annual camp at Sutton (Central Otago). Two of the batteries are from Otago and three from Canterbury. Though the respective battery commanders will command their units, Major A. B. Williams, D. 5.0., Royal New Zealand Artillery, is camp commandant. The Sixteenth (light) Battery left Christchurch by the first express yesterday morning, and travelled from Dunedin to Sutton by railway buses last evening to avoid loss of time in travelling. A party of selected boys from the artillery section of the Otago Boys’ High School Cadets, with two officers, went into camp with the battery, and an aeroplane will fly from Christchurch to co-operate with the batteries during the two days’ shoot for each battery. On January 23 the Sixteenth Battery will return to Christchurch, and the Ninth (field) Battery will go into camp for similar practice. The Twelfth (4.5 Howitzer) Battery (Dunedin) will follow' on February 3, the Tenth (field) Battery on February 10, and the Fourteen (Gin Howitzer medium) Battery (Dunedin) will take the last turn in the camp from February 17 to February 24. A party of hoys from the battery section of the Christchurch Boys’ High School Cadets-will proceed to the camp on January 23, and will undergo training there while the Ninth Battery is in camp. The boys will be accompanied by two officers.
