BOWLING CHAMPIONS
DOMINION RINKS COMPETITION SECTION PLAY COMPLETED Section play in the rinks competition of the dominion bowling championship tournament was completed yesterday afternoon, when the eighth round was played, the weather continuing to be favourable, the bright sun" making conditions very pleasant. No fewer than twenty-nine rinks qualified for postsection play, and in nine instances seven wins were secured. No rink won all its games, but there were several cases where players lost all tlieir games. In the seventh round in section A Barnett, the Roslyn skip, had a comfortable win against Parsons (Ponsonbv), but in the eighth round he suffered his second defeat at the hands of Deare, whose play was an 5i . rovement on his morning's game in which he was defeated by the Karori player, Gilbert.. Devereux again showed good form yesterday, and won his two games without: being ’unduly pressed. This section is now'"in a very interesting position, as four men—Barnett, Deare. Gilbert, And Deveruex —have all qualified for postsection play. . _ In section B MacGdhvray (Roslyn) and Edwards (Temuka) each won seven games with one loss. The former suffered his onlv defeat in the eighth round at the'hands of Claridge (Caledonian) by 23 points to 20. Claridge also qualified with six wins. • With seven wins and only one loss Walker (Auckland) heads the aggregates in section C, Wilson (Lmwood) being the only other player who qualifies for post-section play. In the afternoon game Walker had a close game with'Summereß, the Caledonian; player, whom he defeated bv only 1 point, the final scores being 28-27. Wilson showed good form, and although he von his first game by a narrow margin the eighth round match was won fairly comfortMartin, of Suinner, bowled very well all dav in section I), and had comfortable wins, ending up by being one of the players who was beaten only once. In the afternoon Stevenson (Invercargill) was fully extended by Davidson (Clyde), who was only one point behind him at the end of the.game. In tins section no fewer than seven rinks won four games each. . As a result of play m section E four rinks .entered post-section play. - Both Shepherd (Kaituna) and Wilkinson (Cromwell) had a good day, winning both games. Currie (West End) and Dee (Nelson) showed consistently good form in collecting their six wins. . In section F .Thompson (Phoenix, Oaniaru) and Irvine (Edcndale) each won’seven games, and the others who qualified were Adess (St. Kilda) and Armstrong (Leith), each with six wins. Four rinks also qualified in section G, these being skipped by E. Harraway (Dunedin) and Anderson (limaru), each with seven wins. The latter met his onlv defeat in the final round at the bands of Lewis (Christchurch)-, who won bv 28 points to 21. Grenfell (Phoenix) and Whiblcy (Greymoutb) also qualified for post-section play. ■ Ip section H three players were left with six wins to their credit, these being Muston (Carlton, Auckland). Healey (Waimate), and Shaw (le Rangi, Invercargill). . The three players from section I who have entered post-section play won both of yesterday’s games. These were Bandv (Papa uni), who bad seven wins, Lambeth (Balmacewen). and \eitcli (West Harbour). In the afternoon round Lambeth easily accounted lor Muutell (Tauranga) bv the-big margin of 23 points to 7. After Ins defeat by Bandy in the morning Stuart could not hone to enter post-section play.
