‘PEG O’ MY HEART’

FAMOUS STAGE PLAY FOR EMPIRE Sure, and it’s grand entertainment, is ‘ I’eg O’ My Heart.’ All the Irish whimsey of the famous stage play has been deftly captured in the making of the new starring vehicle which opens at the Empire Theatre next Friday. The charm and hoyden capriciousness of the little Celtic lass we knew so well in the • theatre when Laurettc Taylor played in it, have been carefully retained by Miss Davies iir her splendid performance. Indeed, she gives a most sincere and effective portrayal (states a northern reviewer). Her Peg is simply delightful. Onslow Stevens, a comparative newcomer, is the leading man in the film and gives rise to expectations that he will forge his way to an individual niche on the screen. He is certain of a strong following, judging from the easy negotiation of his first important role.

Robert ,Z. Leonard directed the picture from the J. Hartley Manners play. Frances Marion did the adaptation and the screen play is by Frank R, Adams. Himstory moves with straightforward clarity and departs only in trifling incidents from the original theme. The dialogue is sprightly, especially when read in the infectious brogue adopted for the characterisation by Miss Davies. Included in the cast ol the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer production are J. Farrell MacDonald. Juliette Compton, Irene Browne, Tyrrell Davis. Alan Mowbray, Doris Lloyd, Robert Grieg. Nora Cecil, and Geoffrey Gill.
