THE MILFORD ROAD.
TO THB BDITOK.
Sir,—Are we, or are we not, to have “the most beautiful drive in the world ” —i.e., the Eglinton-Milford road, continued through to Milford Sound? Would it not be a good plan to push on with the job and get it completed so as to give other than “ hikers-” a chance to view such magnificent scenery, which is at present “ so near and yet so far ” from the majority of us? If funds are not available to complete the work, might I suggest the erection of a toll.gate at the Te Anau end of the rofed, where a fee of say one shilling per head would open the gates to all who wished to enter this fairyland ? Funds collected this way would not be grudged by genuine sightseers, and any surplus could bo expended on the upkeep of the road.— I am, etc., Milford. JanuarylS.
