The Narbada will take three or four days to discharge her Lyttelton cargo, and this includes 8,000 bales of cornsacks, or approximately 2,000,000 sacks. This number should hold riiore than 6,500,000 bushels of wheat. Other shipments of sacks arrive during the year, but the January shipment is the main one. The bumper wheat harvest in Canterbury last season was responsible for every available new sack being used up, even though two large shipments were sent away in bulk, and_ sacks were ,n short supply for some time. It is expected that there will be sufficient sacks this year. Except for very small orders, importers have arranged for their clients’ orders to be made up at the ship’s side in truck lots for the different townships.
