BLUESKIN SHOW

ANNUAL DISPLAY AT WAITATI HIGH QUALITY OF EXHIBITS Dairy cattle, horses, and' dairy produce comprised the exhibits at the Blueskin Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s annual show at Waitati on Saturday. Showery weather was experienced during the day,, though the heavy rain ceased early enough in the afternoon to permit of the full programme being carried out. The conditions underfoot were rather unpleasant, and the ring was badly affected for the competitions, which concluded the programme. There was only- a fair attendance, which comprised a 'sprinkling of city visitors. Entries were on a par with last year, the only changes being fin increase 1 in the hack representation and a decline .in the entries in the Friesian cattle section. Competition was keen throughout, and the quality of the exhibits in all sections was of a high quality:'.

Jersey cattle represented ,a first-class section,' in which the North-east Valley breeder, Mr P. J. Hellyer, was the most prominent prise winner. Generally speaking, the type of beast exhibited in this section showed a big improvement on the standard of two years ago. Cross-breds offered some good useful types of cows, and the 'children’s calf classes were 1 outstanding. There were three outstanding-females in the Friesian classes, though the male section : was very- weak, ' and the judge found- the section, as a whole, not nearly as good-as it was when he judged it three years ago; The Cattle wete : all in good condition; but not' up to' the standard, one .would expect. ' Draught horses were fairly ' well represented, .find. the section comprised some outstanding types of good, active horses, shown singly and in teams. In the light horse section Dunedin competitors were most' successful. ; The prize list':—
