OUNEDIN PRESBYTERY

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Dunedin Presbytery was held yesterday afternoon. the Moderator (Rev. H. J. Eyburn) presiding. In reply to a letter from Presbytery, the Prime Minister (Mr Forbes) wrote intimating that he had noted the Dunedin Presbytery associated itself with the protest against the Gaming Amendment Bill, and that the representations made would receive due consideration. —The Rev. J. D. Smith stated that members of the Presbytery would he pleased that the Bill had received strong opposition in the House. The Advisory Board’s report stated that careful consideration had been given by the Life and Work Committee to the proposals submitted to it, and to suggestions received. It now made the following recommendations:— (a) That Presbyterial and congregational missionary conferences should be an annual feature of the year’s activities; (b) in view of the fact that the financial year would close ou June 30 that Presbyterial conferences bo held in March, and that congregational conferences be held as soon as possible after; (e) that in future such conferences be held annually in March ; (d) that up-to-date information for use at such conferences be supplied; (e) that Presbytery assist by arranging for speakers for congregational conferences. It was decided to submit tire report to the Foreign Mission Committee. In accordance with a recommendation from the Church Extension Committee it was decided to recommend the General Assembly to make the following grants to the home mission stations next year:—Brighton, £ls; Gladstone, £3O; Kensington, £SO; Purakanui, £SO; Sawyers Bay, £35; Waipori Falls, £3O; Seadiff-Warrington, £35 ; Waitati, £25. It was decided to extend the term of Mr -R. M. Lament, home missionary at Waitati, another year. The Rev. W. Allen Stevely was appointed to represent the Presbytery on the Broadcasting Committee, in” the place of the Rov. G. Miller, who retires in February. It was decided to draw np a minute of appreciation of the Rev. Miller's services rendered to the Presbytery.

The Moderator and the Rev. G. Miller were appointed the Presbytery’s representatives at the East Taieri Church’s eightieth anniversary celebrations on February 17.
