SHIPYARD ACTIVITY

IMPROVED TRADE WITH DOMINIONS CONSIDERABLE BUILDING Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright, LONDON, November 27. (Received November 28, at 10.35 a.m.) Shipping men say that convincing signs exist that trade with the dominions is increasing. This is attributable to Ottawa, and applies particularly to refrigerated shipping from Australia and New Zealand, in which the tonnage employed is much larger than last year, while the River Plate is suffering severely. The situation in the British shipyards is the brightest for three years, despite the competition from subsidised foreigners. The improvement is chiefly duo to Australian and New Zealand orders, for which six first class vessels are being built. The Orient, ShawSavill, Adelaide Steamship, and New Zealand Shipping Companies are building one each, and the Blue Star Line two. The Blue Star Line intends to have seven vessels trading to Australia and New Zealand within a year. The Shaw-Savill Company’s new refrigerated vessel will be 520 ft long, 70ft beam, with 500,000 cubic feet of insulated space.
