BUDGET CAMOUFLAGE
BIGGER DEFICIT THAN ADMITTED CHAMBER OF COMMERCE VIEW [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, November 16. The Auckland Chamber of Commerce, after discussing the Budget, passed a resolution expressing the opinion that it was most desirable that a full statement of the national finances should be made on the introduction of the Budget. Certain items in the last Budget were open to serious question, and tended to show a far different position than _ was warranted by the financial position of the country. Instead of the estimated deficit of £2,094,000, the correct position would show a deficit of £6,344,000, without counting in any further London funds likely to Accumulate, or the cost of the exchange on them. Members took the view that, undoubtedly, there was some camouflage, and expressed apprehension that people were living in a fool’s paradise.
