STRAW HATS FOR MESSENGERS. A Christchurch Association message states that the telegraph messengers of Christchurch have been granted permission to wear straw hats by the postal authorities. Certain conditions have been imposed, however, and only hats of a uniform colour will be allowed. The step has been taken because the official headgear is uncomfortable and hot in warm weather.
