A verdict of guilty on two charges of incest against Percival Austin Putt, a farmer of Okato, was given by the jury after a retrial at New Plymouth. The jury previously disagreed. The defence was a complete denial of the charges, and an allegation ’ that members of Putt’s family of fifteen were venting their s/pite on their father because he had married a second time. He was remanded for sentence.
Mary M'Allister, who fell and fractured her ankle while in the employ of Florence Radcliffe as a cook, sought compensation in the Arbitration Court at Wellington, and was successful, the court giving judgment for £1 14s a week from the time of live accident, May 23, to the present date, and for a further six months. A statement of the income and expenditure of the Wellington Competitions Society shows an excess expenditure of £lßl 5s 3d. The accumulated funds at November 4, 1932, were £1,004 13s 9d, which are,reduced to £823 10s 6d as a result of the loss on the past year's working. He: “ Think of it, darling. If you’d marry me, you’d have a great hig strong man round the house all the time.” She; “ That's just it, I’d prefer a husband who had a job.”
