Mr P. M'Skinmung, M.P., came by car to Dunedin this morning and went on for Wellington by the 11.35 train. Mr H. It. Harper, New, Zealand manager of the Victoria Insurance Company, travelled by train to-day from Dunedin to Christchurch. Mr J. T. Kncwstubb left for Wellington this morning. The Rev Issaac Sarginson, after revisiting Dunedin, went to-day to Tim—am, on his way back to Christchurch. Mr D. T. Fleming came to Dunedin this morning by the south express. Mr W. Angus, who represents Todd Metros in Otago, left for Christtfcurcli by the 11.35 train to-day. "Mr James Fletcher, enroute for Wellington, was a passenger by this inorn-v ing's first express. The members of the War Pensions Board—Mr T. E. Y. Seddon (chairman), Dr W. Marshall Macdonald, and Mr J. D. Harper—left for the north by tin's morning's first express. After holding a two-day sitting in Timaru the board will return to Wellington. Mr -J. W. Scurr loft for Wellington this morning. ■The Green Island Borough Council last night tendered its congratulations to Mr John Murphy on attaining his” ninetieth birthday. After spending fifty-two years in the service of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Shipping Company, Mr John E. Galbraith, superintendent stevedore, has retired from active work. Mr Galbraith’s first shipping experience was at Lyttelton with Messrs Kinsey and Ward. He later joined the Shaw, savill, and Albion Company, and after fourteen years in Lyttelton was transferred to Dunedin, where for the last thirty-seven years he dims supervise the work of the company both at Dunedin and Port Chalmers. At one time Mr Galbraith took an active part in. the sport of rowing, and was a willingworker at all the regattas held on the harbour. His connection with the mercantile community has always been of a high order, and a number of importing firms as well as employees on the waterfront at Dunedin and Port Chalmers, wishing to show their appreciation, contributed towards the filling of a wallet. On behalf of the donojs, Mr H. C. Campbell, and Mr James H,Duncan called at Mr Galbraith’s residence and presented him with the wallet, wishing him good health and a long deserved holiday. At last night’s meeting of the Green Island Borough Council the mayor (Mr W. T. Smellie) referred to the deaths of ex-Cr. E. J Beeves, who had served on the council for a number of years, being mayor for a .term, and of the sister of Cr M ( Alian. _ _ The general manager of the National Bank of New Zealand has received the following cable from the bank’s London office:—“At the invitation of the directors of the National Bank of New Zealand Sir Thomas Wilford has accepted a scat on the directorate of the bank as from January 1 next.
