MANUFACTURERS’ DEPUTATION

DEVELOPMENT OF INDUSTRIES A MEANS OF ALLEVIATING UNEMPLOYMENT (Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, November 15. A deputation from the conference of the Manufacturers’ Federation waited on the Coalition Party and the Labour Party to-day to place its views before the members on the development of manufacturing industries as a means of alleviating the unemployment’ problem. The discussions with each party were taken separately. The attitude of the Labour Party was conveyed by its leader, Mr Savage. The party realised that the question was one of getting the people generally back into industries. Ho said that Parliament would be faced shortly with the report of, the Tariff Commission and with _ legislation based on its recommendations. Something of a definite nature was wanted. The statement by some of the members of the commission that the commission was not concerned with wages was taken up by Mr Savage, who said he wanted to know upon what Parliament would legislate if the report were not based on wages and conditions of industry. ; The only Minister present with the Coalition members was Mr Young. Several members of the party expressed their views on the points raised, and the representations made were sympathetically received.
