FAUNA AND FLDRA OF AFRICA INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE GALLED (British Official Wireless.) Press Association— By Telegraph—Copyright. RUGBY, October 16. Protection of African fauna and flora by means of a revised international convention will be the chief purpose of a conference which will meet in London on October 31, and at which the Governments of Great Britain, Abyssinia, Belgium, Egypt, Franco, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Anglo-Egyptian Sudan will be represented. The Governments of India, the United States, and the Netherlands have nominated observers.

The chief British delegate, Lord Onslow', will preside, and other British delegates will be Sir William Gowers (senior Crown Agent for the Colonies), Sir Arnold Hodson (Governor of Sierra Leone), and Mr A. B. Achcson (Colonial Office).

A draft convention for use as a basis of discussion has been circulated to the other Governments by the United Kingdom Government. It contains suggestions for an agreed declaration of principle on the establishment of national sanctuaries in which wild animals and plants may bo preserved with duo regard to the interests of the native inhabitants of the various territories concerned, and it also proposes measures to restrict the killing of some of the rarer species of African animals. It also deals with various objectionable methods of hunting and other practices which have a destructive effect upon wild life, and is designed to secure cooperation between the various Administrations.
