FULL ENTERTAINMENT VALUE

■" FINE NEW SHOW FOR OCTAGON ‘ Excess BaggagOj’ which comes to the Octagon on Friday, marks a now vehicle for Claude Allistor, that superb blank-faced comedian remembered from ‘ Bulldog Drummond,’ ‘ Three Live Ghosts,’ and ‘ Diamond Cut Diamond.’ The feminine interest is supplied by Viola Compton, with Frank Pettingoll (the Lancashire comedian of ‘ Hobson’s Choice,’ ‘ Yes, Madame,’ and ‘ Once Bitten ’) assisting on the male side. Superb humour originates from this team of funsters, and many hilarious moments arc promised. The story of ‘ Excess Baggage ’ is so preposterous that it defies serious delineation, the artless, irresponsible fooling being kept up throughout. The principals got down to their work with a mock seriousness that exaggerates the genial craziness of the entertainment, and good team work thrusts the picture into the first lino of screen merit.

The other film showing dually with 1 Excess Baggage ’ will be ‘ Scarlet River,’ with the fine cowboy Tom Keene as the starring figure. His comedy talents appear to fit him for far moro than Western roles, but what a loss it would ho to the ever-youthfnl West if ho deserted his chosen type of film! The whole entertainment is said to he a first-class one for the masses.
