The fortnightly meeting of Court Woodland’s Pride was held on Monday, when all the newly-elected officers took their respective chairsi Sister M. Lockhart, chief ranger, presided. The woodwards, in response to the chief ranger’s inquiry, reported on their visits to the sick members during the past fortnight, the secretary also reading correspondence relative to sick members out of town. Sick pay claims were submitted and duly authorised for payment. The secretary reported having sent a letter of sympathy to a member who had recently lost one of her parents, his action being approved. _ A letter was receivel from Court Pride of the Leith extending a cordial invitation to the members to the meeting of that court on October 11, it being intimated that the district secretary would give a lecture and read a paper on matters affecting friendly societies. A letter was read from Court Pride of, Dunedin inviting all officers and .members to a musical evening and dance in the M.U. Hall on Monday, the 16th instant. The invitation was accepted, a large number of sisters signifying their intention to attend. Court Robin Hood, Port Chalmers, sent an invitation for its anniversary social on the evening of October 18,. and requested that four members attend as representatives. The Chief Hanger appointed four representatives, and explained the railway time-table for the benefit of those making the trip. A notice was also received from Court King Edward’s Pride regarding the cribbage and euchre shield competition of that court, asking for the entry of two teams. One team was duly entered for the euchre competition, the secretary being instructed to forward the names of the team to the court, and to state that they would be in attendance on the evening of October 19, when the competition would commence. The Chief Ranger drew the attention of the members to the fact that the next meeting of the court would fall on Labour Day, and that as Bro. Ellison, the proprietor of the hall, had offered the premises for a meeting on the next evening, Tuesday, October 21, it was decided to meet on the 24th. The action of Bro. Ellison was greatly appreciated by all the officers and members present, and the secretary was instructed to convey the thanks and appreciation of the court’. The Chief Ranger intimated that she would open the court at 7 o’clock on the date in question, and also decided that the entertainment as printed in the syllabus for that evening be cancelled. The secretary was then instructed to write Courts Enterprise and Pride of Dunedin and notify them of the holidays arrangements, advising
them that their courts would be invited for a card and dance evening on Novem.bor 6. The delegates to the Syllabus Handbook Committee reported that they had attended at the district office, and gave full particulars of what had been decided upon in connection with the new syllabus. After the report had been fully discussed and dealt with the delegates were instructed to attend the next meeting of the committee on Monday, October 30, for the purpose of submitting the court’s programme a$ drawn up by the Social Committee. The secretary read the nomination forms of two candidates for the next meeting, and was instructed to forward the necessary papers for the candidates to fill in. At the conclusion of the meeting a number of friends and supporters of the court were admitted and welcomed, the evening being spent in dancing and social intercourseAbout forty couples sat down to supper* the catering being in the hands of Bro, and Sister Ellison.
