MARRIED TO FRENCHWOMAN PLEASING VILLAGE INCIDENT, Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. PARIS, October 13. In these days of Franco-German estrangement a pleasing incident is reported from the village of Escautpoint (near Valenciennes), which the Germans occupied in war time under an officer who showed many kindnesses to the inhabitants. He afterwards married a French woman,'and settled in the village. The villagers are now indignant at the officer’s sentence of fifteen days for an alleged assault. His wife, in addition, is agitating for a reduction of the sentence, and the villagers have arranged a banquet in his honour when ho leaves gaol.
