RECORD EXPORT
PRAISE FOR OTAGO FARMERS PRODUCTIVITY DESPITE LESS FERTILISER A new record in export tonnage from the port of Otago was created during the cloven months ended on August 31. “ The overseas exports' for the year are a record for the port, the amount in eleven months being 56,974 tons,” stated the Chairman (Mr H. C. Campbell) at last night’s meeting of the Harbour Board. Replying to a question, Mr Campbell said tht tho previous record was for the year 1928-29. when, for the same eleven months the exports totalled 49,837 tons. Mr F. E. Tyson expressed the opinion that the new record would stand for some time. Mr W. Begg; We hope it will be improved upon. Mr T. Scollay said the exports were a splendid record, indicating indirectly that Mr R. S. Thompson and his country friends were standing by tho board. ■ The export figures were very significant, said Mr Thompson. Despite the fact that the sale of top-dressing manure had decreased in Otago by 4S per cent, last year, a record tonnage had gone over tho wharves. That clearly showed that tho farmers of Otago wore true farmers and that they were doing their work nobly so far ns the board was concerned.
